Project Overview
We were honored to partner with St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hanover, Kansas, on a sanctuary project that thoughtfully combined new craftsmanship with the preservation of existing architectural details. The scope of work included new pews with book racks, custom frontal screens with detailed ends, and integrated kneelers, all designed to enhance both function and visual continuity within the worship space.
Design and Installation Details
The new pews were crafted with book racks on the back, providing convenient and organized storage for hymnals and worship materials. To maintain consistency and respect the church’s established character, the project incorporated the parish’s existing pew ends, which were carefully stripped and refinished rather than replaced. This approach allowed the original design to be preserved while giving the pew ends a renewed yet familiar appearance.
Both the pews and frontal screens were constructed from solid Northern Appalachian red oak, selected for its strength, beauty, and long-term durability. The frontal screens were completed with custom-designed ends, adding visual definition and a polished transition to the front rows of seating.
The seating was outfitted with Aluma-Kneel kneelers, offering smooth operation and lasting performance. All components were finished in a Golden Hickory stain, a warm and inviting tone that enhances the natural character of the red oak while complementing the sanctuary’s interior.
