Project Overview
For this project, we had the opportunity to help St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tacoma, Washington create a sanctuary seating solution that combines traditional character with carefully considered custom details. The installation featured our solid oak PB-95 pews with contoured seats, custom-angled backs, recreated pew ends inspired by the church’s original seating, and matching frontal screens with integrated bookracks and kneelers.
Design and Installation Details
The sanctuary pews were crafted from solid oak using our PB-95 design, providing a strong and timeless foundation for the space. To further enhance comfort, the church selected contoured seats, giving the pews a more comfortable and refined seating profile.
The pew backs were also customized with a specific angle requested by the church. This detail allowed us to tailor the pews to the needs of the sanctuary while maintaining the traditional character of the original seating.
One of the most distinctive aspects of this project was the custom pew ends. Rather than introducing an entirely new design, we recreated the appearance of the church’s original pew ends, allowing the new seating to retain a familiar architectural connection to the sanctuary’s history.
Each pew was equipped with bookracks and our Aluma-Kneel kneelers, providing practical functionality while maintaining a clean and cohesive appearance. We also created matching vertical frontal screens featuring built-in bookracks and kneelers, carrying the same design elements into the front rows of the sanctuary.
The finished project brings together the character of the church’s original furnishings with the comfort, durability, and craftsmanship of newly constructed solid oak seating. Every detail was thoughtfully considered to ensure the new furnishings felt at home within the existing sanctuary.
